The Operations Director is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the C&E business, ensuring seamless end-to-end processes that drive efficiency, scalability, and exceptional service delivery. This role provides strategic leadership and direction to all operational entities, aligning performance with business goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability. The Operations Director acts as the primary operational liaison between executive leadership and functional teams, leading initiatives that enhance productivity, profitability, and compliance across the organisation.
This position will initially require regular travel between company entities across Europe and occasional international travel to global trade shows, exhibitions, and partner meetings to support business growth and development.
What we expect from you
Strategic Leadership
- Lead and oversee the end-to-end operational functions of the business, ensuring seamless, efficient, and scalable processes across all departments.
- Develop and execute the operational strategy in alignment with the company’s overall business objectives and growth plans.
- Partner with senior leadership to shape long-term business goals, operational policies, and resourcing strategies.
- Anticipate future business challenges and design proactive operational solutions to meet evolving needs.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure optimal performance of all operational areas through effective management, process control, and data-driven decision-making.
- Establish and monitor KPIs to evaluate performance, productivity, and quality standards, taking corrective actions as required.
- Oversee production planning and scheduling to meet business demand and service levels.
Performance Management and Reporting
- Produce and present regular performance reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) detailing operational success, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Report operational activities, challenges, and recommendations to senior and executive management with clear action plans.
- Use data analytics to identify trends, forecast needs and support evidence based decision making.
People Leadership and Development
- Provide strong managerial leadership, coaching, and feedback to direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Champion staff training and upskilling initiatives to build operational excellence and career development across all levels.
- Build and maintain a high-performing team through effective talent management, succession planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Sales, Compliance, Finance, Facilities, Service Delivery, and P&C to ensure alignment of operational goals with business priorities.
- Function as the operational liaison to internal and external stakeholders, providing insight and updates on key projects and initiatives.
- Represent Operations at senior leadership meetings and client-facing engagements, articulating processes, metrics, and outcomes.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all operational activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure operational integrity.
- Oversee safety, quality, and production standards; ensure that all operational practices meet health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify and execute business process improvement projects that drive efficiency, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
- Promote a culture of innovation, empowering teams to develop creative solutions for operational challenges.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and systems to enhance operational effectiveness and performance visibility.
Financial & Resource Management
- Manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Identify and implement cost-saving measures while maintaining or improving service quality.
- Contribute to annual budgeting and forecasting processes, providing operational insight and recommendations.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Industry & Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding and hands on experience with production operations within the IT industry, ideally including IT Asset Disposition (ITAD), Data Protection and Refurbishment environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general business operations and how cross-functional processes impact performance, cost, and customer outcomes.
- Familiarity with ISO standards including ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 27001 (Information Security); knowledge of R2 (Responsible Recycling) certification is highly advantageous.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety (H&S) principles; IOSH certification (or equivalent) desirable.
Strategic & Operational Competence
- Strong business process improvement mindset, with a track record of identifying inefficiencies and implementing scalable, sustainable solutions.
- Proven capability to manage complex operational departments, encompassing multiple disciplines and varying skill levels.
- Advanced planning, forecasting, and resource management skills, with the ability to align operational delivery to strategic objectives.
- Strong understanding of budget management and the ability to develop, monitor, and control departmental budgets to achieve financial targets.
- Financial acumen with experience analysing cost structures, identifying savings, and supporting commercial decision-making.
Leadership & Management
- Minimum 5+ years of senior management experience, leading diverse teams and multiple operational disciplines within a fast-paced or technical environment.
- Proven ability to lead through change, providing clear direction and maintaining stability during transformation or growth periods.
- Demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams, building capability and accountability at all levels.
- Skilled at fostering collaboration and agile teamwork, enabling departments to adapt quickly to unexpected challenges or shifting priorities.
- Strong HR knowledge, including understanding of proper disciplinary and performance management procedures.
Communication & People Skills
- Exceptional communication skills across all mediums — face-to-face, phone, video, and email — with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to all levels of the organisation.
- Skilled in stakeholder management, building trust and credibility with peers, senior executives, clients, and external partners.
- Confident presenter, capable of representing the Operations function at executive meetings and customer engagements.
